Heritage: The Fight for Territory
The occupation of indigenous land by mining companies has become a reality. In this context my work considers how, in situations where indigenous land has been occupied, the current trend of land degradation and heritage destruction can be reversed by demonstrating the close links between heritage and indigenous practises, thus preventing a worsening impact of mining on this land in the future. I suggest that we should reposition and conceptualise the idea of heritage, and propose a new research method that proves the value of heritage by defining it, as part of the fight for land rights.
